Orthodontic treatment is a great way to achieve the smile of your dreams. However, it can be difficult at times. After orthodontic adjustments, it’s normal and expected to have sore teeth. This can be quite inconvenient and bothersome. Fortunately, there are things you can do to relieve the soreness and provide comfort, and our orthodontist, Dr. Rehana Khan, is happy to tell you what they are!
First, rinse with warm water and take pain medication. Rinsing with warm water will help the oral muscles and teeth relax. So, feel free to rinse whenever the soreness arises. Taking over-the-counter pain medication, like Tylenol and ibuprofen, can also relieve the pain you experience. So, please take those as necessary.
Second, eat a soft diet. Eating soft foods can help you avoid worse pain. So, make sure you only eat soft, easy-to-eat foods for the first day or two after your appointment at our office.
Third, use your teeth. Pretend your chompers are muscles. When your muscles are sore, the worst thing you can do is sit around and let them get stiff, right? So, use your teeth often by chewing and biting. This can help you relieve the soreness in a quicker fashion.
